There is always things being said about Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi and not nearly enough of it is about how the young Toronto poker pro has pretty much “crushed”, well, everything. As he has put it “haters gonna hate” and those on top know there is just no pleasing everybody, especially when you are sending a good deal of them to the rail.
In 2010, Sorel pretty much swept the medias Player of the Year Competitions, winning the titles, attention, recognition and bragging rights of several major publications, as well as placing at the top of any others remaining. It was an epic year by all counts, but Sorel has consistently scored around 500,000 a year in live tournament winnings for the past 5 years, averaging about 700,000 per calendar year since he “arrived” on the brick and mortar scene about 5 years ago. Sorel is at nearly $3,700,000 in live tournament cashes, a number he is sure to be adding to with the deep run he is currently making in World Series of Poker $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship, onto Day 5 at the time of this article.
Mizzi currently ranks around 8th on the Canadian All Time Tournament Money Lists; add to all of the above that Sorel has over $2,360,000 in online Multi Table Tournament winnings and Sorel is pretty much second to only WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel and poker legend Daniel Negreanu. Given that Duhamel, though obviously quite talented and continuing to prove so, has won the majority of total in just a few events, while Sorel has around thirty final tables at major events in at least a dozen different countries, he is definitely a close second to the 2010 World Champion.
Online Sorel has also won the PokerStars Sunday Warm Up as well as most recently claiming the top spot on the FTOPS XX leader board, after cashing in 17 of the 45 events. It doesn’t currently look like he will have much of a chance to sport his custom avatar or use the buy-ins he won for his results anytime soon however. No matter, as a Titan Poker sponsored player and Canadian, he can still continue to rake it there and on PokerStars, where he plays under the screen name “zangbezan24″.
While Sorel currently approaches the top 100 live tournament career money winners in the world, in the big picture few players anywhere can claim the roughly $6,000,000 in combined winnings that Mizzi has accomplished. There is plenty of room and milestone left available for Sorel to yet accomplish; while he has won World Poker Tour events and cashed at the World Series of Poker, Sorel has yet to win a $10,000 or bigger buy-in event or WSOP bracelet. With money totals pretty much in the bag, all that is really left to put Sorel on the poker throne he deserves is titles.
Undoubtably, if Sorel continues to cash at the rate he has been and should he win a few of the larger buy-in events, given his relatively short poker career as compared to a others, he will certainly emerge as one of the top players on the planet, let alone just from Canada, in as soon as the next decade.
