Last week, we looked at a couple of our Canadian players great online poker results as of SCOOP Event #8 and told you a few of our own recent champions were going deep in the EPT Grand Finale in Madrid, so maybe it’s time to pick up where we left off…
Starting back off at the Spring Championships Of Online Poker Event #9, “sidthekid101″ of Canada had a great finish, an impressive 3rd place for $13,580 in th $215 “Medium” Mixed Hold’em 6 Max, but “StatusUp” brought home the bragging rights and watch with a win in the $2100 “High” for $56,680.
“UhhMee”, who had been leading the series for points but has now fallen back to around 7th place, had another final table finish in Event #10. This time Amir’s deep cash came in the $320 Stud, a 5th place worth $2,937. “fly44″ got the ball rolling in Event #11 and was next to take fifth, this time in the $265 No Limit Hold’em Knockout, padding his bankroll with another $22,932. In the 2 Day “High” $2600, “Gambit360″ from Canada was the overnight chip leader after Day 1, but was sent to the rail in 6th for a none-the-less impressive run worth $24,930.
“d0rit0s” kept the Canuck momentum going, locking up 3rd $30,138 in the $1575 No Limit Hold’em “Ante Up”, for the “High” installment of Event #13. Then, Event #14 added a little more testimony that we can play more than just Hold’em around here; during the $55 Fixed Limit Omaha High Low, two Canadians made final table. “radiotrout” took 5th for $7377 and “Mammola” 8th for $1617 and then Powell River’s Russell “rdcrsn” Carson added to his now epic five million dollars plus in online winnings with a 5th place finish in the $530 “Medium” for $6,380. He then followed it up with a 6th place finish in Event #15, this time worth another $15,712 in the $162 “2X Chance Turbo”
Continuing our crushing in the Omaha events, “Chilax Chuck” took first place in Event #17 Pot Limit Omaha (6-Max with Re-buys) for $48,963 in the “Medium”, while www.pokerforum.ca member Mike “SirWatts” Watson finished 8th in the $1575 “High” for $14,906.
Manitoba’s Clayton “slammedfire” Mozdezen had a runner up finish in the $215 Triple Stud Turbo, collecting $7,598 in Event #18, then things slowed down a little for Events #19 & #20. Both where No Limit Hold’em tournaments and across all levels we had only one final table per event; “FouTight” finished 9th in the Medium $215 while in the $22, “pipemaster55″ cashed for $2647 for a ninth place finish. Not huge money, but still impressive since the event seen over 22,000 entries.
Things continued to go well in the $1575 Mixed NLH/PLO, where “tunnny” ended up taking 7th for $13,080, then during Event #22, a $320 Four-Max No Limit Hold’em that had “wex_69″ making the small final table for 4th and $16,846.
Event #23 brings us up to date. The Pot Limit Omaha Turbo was uber fast at only three hours to completion,but it was “alexandrapau” from Canada who bested 183 high stakes players for the title and $84,065 first prize. The Medium Stakes tourney had 955 players that whittled down to just one in four hours. Canadian “Iftarii” was part of a three-way chop that saw him take the biggest piece at $32,145 and “rSMig” took 5th for $10,720, while Vancouver’s Chris “maxxscam” Back claimed 8th for $4,254. Chris has been having a great last 6 months, after finishing 6th for $61,750 at the BCPC’s and following up soon after by shipping an UBOC6 PLO8 event in the for $18,950.

EPT Grand Final Madrid and Champion of Champions
The Season 7 EPT Grand Final in Madrid had some of our own going deep,but Venezuelan Ivan Freitez ended up taking first to win €1,500,000, a stunning bracelet worth €22,000 and a seat in the EPT Champion of Champions event.
From Canada, BC’s Daniel Idema was 41st for €25,000, while EPT Champion Ben Wilinofsky went out 44th for the same. Jason “PrarieHawk” Grad from Calgary, lasted to 54th at Madrid for his own €25,000 cash. Montreal’s Will Molson found the bare felt in 59th for €20,000 while Toronto’s Xuan Lui finished 75th for the same. Great performances from our boys and girls, congratulations to them all!
Things wrapped up with the EPT Champion of Champions, an event that gathered 50 EPT Title holders from all seven seasons, including another of our own Pokerforum.ca members, Mike “Timex” McDonald. €100,000 was put up for grabs and after all was said and done, American poker player Jason Mercier took the title. The Winner of the EPT San Remo in 2008, Mercier faced and defeated a tough final table in the “Champion of Champions” event that included top players Bertrand Grospellier and Gallen Hall.
Vicky Loren of Britain took the fourth place package of €10,000 towards Season 8 EPT event buy-ins, while Russian poker player Maxim Lykov finished third for a €15,000 package. Gallen Hall won the runner up prize of €25,000, leaving Mercier collecting €50,000 in event entries, and the bragging rights, for the win.
